Rigs and Knots.

This page is aimed more at the younger or inexperienced anglers to hopefully help them gain knowledge and confidence thus enhancing the whole angling experience. The worst thing that can happen on your fishing trip is to lose a nice fish due to the wrong setup.

Here are some pictures and explanations to guide the novice angler through the basics.

This a standard shot pattern for waggler floats. The bulk of the shot is round the bottom of the float with just one small shot about 6 inches from the hook to sink the bait.

Shirt Button Shot Pattern.

Space the shot evenly between float and hooklength.

The lift method.

Used mainly for tench very little or no shot round the float and one big shot near the hook. When the fish picks up the bait it lifts the big shot off the bottom causing the float to rise out of the water and lay flat on the surface. To use this method you must plum the depth accurately.

Attaching Hooks To Nylon.

Make a loop in the end of your mainline, pass the hook to nylon through the loop you just tied, pass the hook through the loop on the end of the hook to nylon, pull tight. There you have an easy way to attach hooks to nylon without any large messy knots.
